super service drive inyeso, new mexico
There wasn't enough traffic along US 60 to keep the Super Service Drive In busy - nor any of the other businesses in this town halfway between Vaughn and Ft. Sumner. Established in 1906 with the coming of the railroad, the town "went" after about 30 years. This posting is apropos for Halloween - a google-search of "Yeso" mentions its status as a ghost town. Maybe the Super Service Drive In still caters to passing souls.

georgia o'keeffe countryGhost Ranch was originally a dude ranch in the 1930s where Georgia O'Keeffe owned a small adobe house and marveled at the colors in the "bad lands." Ghost Ranch is a few miles north of Abiquiu in the Chama Valley. Abiquiu village was "closed" because of all the equipment, traffic and hubbub of movie filming -- I think "Cowboys and Aliens" but I didn't catch a glimpse of Harrison Ford. Today Ghost Ranch is a Presbyterian conference center but the colors and the mesas remain.

as the leaf turnsI spent the weekend with my old friends Robitussin, Sudafed and Musinex -- hence no new photos taken nor posted. I felt as drab and drear as this fallen leaf -- buffeted by today's gusty, dusty winds.
To fill in the spaces, I've posted rejects from my entries into the annual High and Dry Photography Exhibit hosted by the Texas Tech International Cultural Center featuring the lands and people of the world's semi-arid lands. This year, the letter informs me that one of my entries has been selected from the hundreds received and will be exhibited.
